One looks into a large room from above. On it’s two back walls hang four larger than life framed prints of portrait photographs. The space in front of them is filled with people standing close together, all looking at the lower left corner of the photo.

Travels 2020

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2020, 8 AM TO 8 PM, DAY TRIP TO BONN
Morning visit to the exhibition Martin Kippenberger. Bitteschön Dankeschön. Eine Retrospektive at Bundeskunsthalle Bonn. Martin Kippenberger (1953-1997) was one of the most productive German artists of his generation. Like no other, he embodies the image of the "typical artist", like no other he lived an inseparable symbiosis of life and art production - with great intensity and consistency. All of his works are self-portraits, in the broadest sense, that they say something about him, his life situation, his environment - even those that do not depict him.

Afternoon tour through the exhibition Nobert Schwontowski. Some of my secrets at the Kunstmuseum Bonn. Norbert Schwontkowski (1949–2013) is considered one of the most important representatives of contemporary figurative painting and a master of painterly compression. Often kept in dark, earthy tones, his pictures convey a feeling of melancholy seriousness, which can nevertheless take the form of a bitterly humorous motif. His poetic visual themes play with the surreal, the unconscious and the hint of stories that he never consistently tells to the end. On the occasion of the artist's 70th birthday, the exhibition shows around 70 paintings from the late 1980s to 2012 as well as 35 sketchbooks. It is the most comprehensive museum presentation of the Bremen painter's work to date.

The day trip is accompanied by the curator of the MMK Klaus Görner.

Costs: € 125 including train journey, guided tours, art history accompaniment and lunch (excluding drinks), registration and the detailed program at +49 69 174 296 or info@freunde-des-mmk.de
