MMK Foundation

The MMK Stiftung (MMK Foundation) was founded in 2011 with the aim of sustainably supporting and promoting the work of the Museum für Moderne Kunst.
The museum's extensive activities can be maintained and further developed only with additional financial resources. Support the MMK Stiftung with a contribution of your choice and invest directly in the future of the museum. In this way, you help ensure the continued work of an internationally networked and renowned museum of contemporary art in the long term.

Goals and projects

The MMK Stiftung offers support in the following areas:

  • TOWERMMK
  • Cultural education
  • Collection presentation and restoration measures
  • Research projects

THE TOWERMMK – THE YOUNGEST BRANCH OF THE MMK
The TOWERMMK is financed from the MMK Stiftung. The MMK Stiftung thus contributes to making an innovative and economically sustainable model of museum expansion possible.

CULTURAL EDUCATION
Exchange on art makes it easier to understand the manifold artistic positions presented at the MUSEUMMMK. A primary task of the museum is therefore to fulfil its mission as an educational institution and offer a varied and comprehensive cultural programme. One focus of the support provided by the MMK Stiftung is to safeguard and further develop cultural education. If you would like to get involved in this area, you can, for example, make a donation for a specific art education project or sponsor a school. As a school sponsor, you enable a school to use the museum’s free education programme for school classes for a period of one year.

COLLECTION PRESENTATION AND RESTORATION MEASURES
With more than 5,000 works, the MUSEUMMMK possesses one of the internationally most renowned collections of modern and contemporary art. In addition to paintings, photographs, works on paper and sculptures, the holdings also include wall paintings, installations and video art as well as performative and organic works. Their preservation and the associated scientific investigation constitute an essential task of a museum. Because the MUSEUMMMK does not have its own means of financing these activities, support from the MMK Stiftung is particularly important.

RESEARCH PROJECTS
In view of globalization, the increasing importance of the media and the changes that have come about in society in recent years, the museum of the twenty-first century faces new challenges and is called upon to redefine the role of the museum as a public space. Communication and mediation are becoming more and more important. It is among the responsibilities of the MUSEUMMMK für Moderne Kunst to put these and similar issues into a scholarly context, for example in the framework of specific research projects.

Forms of support

Your financial contributions to the foundation can take various forms. Whereas by donating money, you support the museum in its concrete short-term projects, support in the form of endowments benefits the foundation purpose in the long term.

All funds received by the foundation are used exclusively for the realization of its purposes as stated by the foundation charter. As a foundation with legal capacity under civil law based in Frankfurt am Main, the MMK Stiftung is recognized by the tax authorities as a non-profit institution worthy of support. The foundation is thus entitled to issue donation receipts.

The support of the MMK Stiftung is an attractive option for donors. Not only can you take advantage of tax benefits, but you can also designate how your contribution is to be used and in what form you would like to publicize your dedication.

Foundation

In 2010, the Commerzbank AG made a generous donation to the MUSEUMMMK. In doing so, the bank signalled its solidarity with, and great dedication to, art and culture in general and the museum in particular. The donation represents a continuation of the kind of commitment that has already existed for many years in the museum’s cooperation with the Jürgen Ponto Foundation and the Dresdner Bank AG Collection’s permanent loan of Katharina Fritsch's Tischgesellschaft to the museum since 1989. The patronage by the Commerzbank AG thus takes on permanent form, ensuring the added value of the bank and the MUSEUMMMK alike. What is more, it firmly anchors the combination of business and culture in an exemplary, long-term and intensive partnership. The foundation was entered in the City of Frankfurt’s Golden Book of Foundations in 2011.
