Musical Lecture - Songs of Gastarbeiter

AYKU (İmran Ayata, Bülent Kullukçu)

Songs of Gastarbeiter
Musical lecture for the Night of the Museums with AYKU
May 4, 2024, 21:00 - 24:00

Since 2013, the AYKU project by author Imran Ayata and artist Bülent Kullukçu has been researching, collecting and presenting music from the 1960s, 70s and 80s - the period of so-called 'guest and contract work' in the FRG and GDR. They deal with music that was an integral part of the everyday lives of millions of people living in the FRG and GDR, but which was and still is largely unknown to the public. AYKU is working to change this: With their two compilations to date, Songs of Gastarbeiter Vol. 1 (2013) and Songs of Gastarbeiter Vol. 2 (2022), as well as their stage program, they are creating awareness for a diverse, politically influenced music culture and thus providing impetus for second careers, musical collaborations or the film Songs of Gastarbeiter - Liebe, D-Mark und Tod by Cem Kaya. At the MMK, AYKU presents a variety of songs, bands and solo musicians in its three-hour musical lecture with music and videos. The exhibition There is no there there will be open until 2 a.m. during the Night of Museums and will be accompanied by an extensive free guided tour program.

The event is only accessible with a ticket for the Night of the Museums.
